If you received what you truly deserve, it would be eternal separation from God. No matter how good you think you are, your sin earns you nothing but condemnation. The Bible makes it clear that the wages of sin is death, and if God were to give you justice without mercy, hell would be the only destination. This reality should bring you to a sobering understanding of how desperately you need His grace. Your best efforts and moral achievements cannot save you from what you’ve earned.
But thanks be to God, He doesn’t give you what you’ve earned. Instead, He offers grace through Jesus Christ. Christ took on what you deserved, so you could receive what you could never earn—eternal life and reconciliation with God. When you understand this, your entire perspective shifts. You don’t rely on your works or goodness, but on the finished work of Christ, knowing that without Him, your only reward would be eternal punishment.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
— Romans 6:23
