The truth of God’s Word is not always comfortable, but it is necessary. When people complain that a minister speaks too harshly about sin or judgment, it often reflects an unwillingness to confront the reality of their own sinfulness. So don’t shy away from hearing about judgment—embrace and understand the seriousness of sin and the immense mercy you have received.
If the truth of God’s judgment feels too harsh, it may be a sign that your heart has not yet fully grasped the weight of sin or the beauty of salvation. When you understand what Christ has saved you from, hearing about judgment doesn't produce fear or offense—it produces gratitude. A saved sinner knows that hearing the truth, no matter how hard, is a blessing, because it points to the One who has already paid the price.
"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
— 1 Corinthians 1:18
